Well one of the 'indicators' for dark matter is that the universe is expanding. Apparently without dark matter it would not. So if you like a dark nightsky with pinpricks og starlight then you should thank the dark matter for that. without it the universe would not be expanding and maybe even shrinking. We would have a night sky full of so many stars it made the night bright as day ;-))
Hi Element 99, I am kinda watching your posts on that, remembering your interest..
Dark matter is supposedly the 24% (or so, I think?) scaffolding on which all the visible/detectible matter is strung...then isn't dark energy something like 72%...and finally, what we are familiar with is the 4% universe?
I'm just using the concept of "dark matter" until a better understanding comes along, and looking forward to more of your own ideas on that!
Dozy I will tell you this is fascinating...dark matter is one of the concepts of special interest to me because of the correlation with the nature of consciousness. Here is one of my favourite quotes of all time, Sir James Jeans (1877-1946), one of the founders of British cosmology, made important contributions to quantum theory, professor at both Princeton and Cambridge Universities. Philosophically he was an agnostic Freemason. I like him because he was willing to go wherever his findings led, even when unexpected and not all that comfortable.

It matters to cosmologists and astronomers who ponder and study such concepts, but to the majority of sentient beings, dark matter is not among the list of significant concerns.
