What is the funniest thing you have never laughed or never even smiled about because just knowing it is funny is sufficient?

  You have succeeded in answering, you seem to understand quite well. I ask questions, mostly of the ridiculous variety and I get some amazing answers just like yours that inform me more than anything I could ever 'Google'.
 
 My mother was born in 1952. I do recall reading of Jack Benny in someone's autobiography, perhaps Regis Philbin. Reading is a bit more of a hobby of mine than television nowadays and I stay very well uninformed.  I am not sure if I've heard of Burns and Allen. I mention my mother being born in 1952 but I never recall who mentioning any television show from that period except I love Lucy and I'm unsure if she saw any when it first aired, I'd say it is quite doubtful because she grew up in a very rural town, even as I was growing up, it was still common for people to have outhouses and my mother was born in a house with a dirt floor.

 I think I can understand the superfluity you speak of tho with the humor. I used to feel that way particularly with David Letterman's Top 10 List. His whole show really and Saturday Night Live as well to some extent, I'd watch the whole shows at times and feel like it was funny, maybe because of an audience laughing, but even inside where most of my emotions never exit, there was no laughter. I actually felt disappointed mostly after both those shows but still somehow enthralled by both. I never watched anything regularly as a child though. One television, an older brother and both parents until I was 12....so anyway thanks for your answer, and yes I talk too much.

George Burns, Gracie Allen...he was the straight man to her unbelievable dumbness (actually takes an intelligent person to pull this off). In their day, they were beloved by virtually the whole nation!

"We yanks" my goodness a man would get slapped in this part of the country for calling Americans that. lol. Seriously, I never heard that in this state except by one friend who was referred to as a 'yank' while in London and he is to the far right, so needless to say he wasn't happy.

 I an quite the opposite, I laughed (something I rarely do, unless it is totally inappropriate to laugh) when the two final candidates were selected. I couldn't help but to think of two historical incidents: One Nelson Rockefeller's bid for the republican nomination in the 60's, here he was divorced, yes OMG, divorced and had a new wife! So despite being extremely wealthy and a career politician, His new wife Happy Rockefeller probably cost him the election as much as any issue. Now we have a man that is on what 3 or 4 wives? I will read about it in a decade, news is too depressing to stay current unless it's something I can change. Then the other incident was Nixon's impeachment, he actually resigned and walked away, no doubt had anything like the so-called scandal Hillary was involved in would have forced anyone to resign back during that time. I'm not really sure where I'm going with this, except I just really couldn't help but laugh because it surely would have looked like a circus had anyone been able to glance into the future from those days of the 1960s and 1970s.

When I was just a few years younger it was difficult to imagine the past clearly because we are taught so much history at a young age, but only small parts of it, and now that I've statistically made it past the halfway point of life, I really wonder what people will be like in another 40 years.

I'm from New England...We are proud of being called "Yanks" or "Yankees" or most of us are, anyways. lol

NE, aside from the "wrong coast" of the US is one of the most left-leaning portions of the country and I wear that on my sleeve ;) 

I really want to visit the New England area. I always have, I am kind of slow moving tho, so I need some time to visit and be yelled at by you yankees for driving too slow lol. (I picked up a bit of that around D.C. and a few fingers telling me I'm number one.) I love our nation, all parts of it. California and Hawaii, I miss the weather. I can hardly stand the weather here and I know up your way, you actually get snow, here I haven't seen a huge snow for literally 21 years.  I think if I could live in the north and then migrate to Southern Arizona or California for the winter I'd be good weather-wise. I think I could get along with the people most everywhere. Just throw on a local sports team shirt, wherever I am, and already half the people love me lol. There is just so much rich history there for this being such a young nation anyway. Here it is rare to find buildings over a century old outside the major cities, what few are standing are mostly log homes although there are a few brick mansions. The closest I've been is D.C. and that was just driving through, actually like a five hour spontaneous detour just to see the White House about six years ago probably.

I am just following my old tradition of typing out questions without much conscious thought or filter.

So I can think of plenty of things. I would hate to be around a bunch of people like me all the time now that I think about it. It's like I know inside it is really funny but I do not naturally express it, unless maybe I applied alcohol and that doesn't sit well with me in recent years.

hmmm well now.. this has gone an made me think even deeper! See some of the greatest thinkers and were people who without trying just came up with stuff.. so perhaps you are one of these... a genius... only you don't know it yet..

And sometimes... when we let go of our conscious... we come up with something far more insightful and meaningful...

I have always thought that probably the most brilliant minds are never acknowledged.

Only a person who isn't very brilliant cares to go around telling everyone how smart they are.

The truly brilliant minds in history were those who were creative, inventors and such. They often faced ridicule as the small minds of the world could never have perceived things such as, telephone, aviation and radio. Now we live in a world where people confuse memorization with intelligence. Developing new concepts and solving problems is where intelligence is. The more problems a person can solve, likely the more she'll get paid.

Drop by this evening around 5pm and we'll go for margaritas and contemplate the universe.
