Being all serious for a moment ... Sorry folks .. but yes. To the best of my knowledge all sites at one point had a manhood type ceremony ... It marked the distinction between boy and man ... It carried great weight and no doubt fear .. it stressed the importance of what you were about to earn .. the right to participate as an adult ... These days it appears there is more thought on the rights than the responsibility ... Just my thoughts
What I'm saying is in the past, thinking of Athens here, citizenship had to be earnt, it wasn't granted automatically ... As such it was valued ... Only citizens could vote as part of policy decisions
