I have been a supervisor too. I suppose some didn't like me because I did demand quality work. But honestly, I believe I had the ability to be helpful and caring to anyone that really wanted it. I only turned cold when I dealt with people that were blatantly complacent or disrespectful.
Yeah. It was the same for me. I was just joking. But, there were times at that job in which I had problems that cropped up between the employees and the owner of the company, who was both my immediate supervisor, and a class A nut job. So, I did the best I could under the circumstances. I was stuck in a situation where he just thoroughly enjoyed messing with people's heads and I was forced to be the conduit. It's hard to explain without getting into the details. The bottom line: it was very exhausting covering for a sociopath.
When I was young, on one job, I had an immediate supervisor who was a problem for everyone and, the owner of the company, her boss was an even bigger problem. You can't win in that kind of situation. I just found another job.
Imagine working with a mother/daughter team. Mom was the owner. Not a bad lady at all. But her daughter was a spoiled queen bitch who enjoyed making people squirm. I hated that job with a passion and would have never stayed had I not needed the paycheck so bad. Nothing is worse than having to stay somewhere to survive until you can get something else.
She was the poster child for what you would think a snob would be. I never saw such disregard for the feelings of others. It was a small retail business too, so it wasn't like any of us made much more than minimum wage.
Trust me, I have paid my dues in the business world.
I worked at the Mission for almost 9 years. The residents, my clients and some staff were the main reason I stayed. But once I was ready to leave I was able to.
not so much a boss but i wanted to report a neighbor to the resident coordinator but figured it would be worthless since theyre not even talking to each other
Sure have. I've worked in a corrupt environment where people were constantly laying traps for each other. you basically had no recourse in appeal or other avenues of redress.
This fairly close; "first week" on the job. My boss and I were doing a reset on a very large account. I had some tool we needed in my car and he decided he would be such a nice guy and go get it for me. My gut said otherwise. He left and i went to the door and watched. He got the tool and stole close to $60.00 of product right out of my car. Watched him take it to his vehicle and put it in the trunk. Did I say anything? Not on your life, first week? hahaha I just absorbed the loss. He had been with the company for a very long time. Who would they believe? No way to prove it.
I'd have reported him to the police to be honest. That's not just a work matter that's a legal matter. He broke the law taking something from your car without permission.
That is terrible! I wouldn't be able to keep my mouth shut. I would have walked out to the parking lot and embarrassed the heck out of him in the middle of it all.
