Barry
wants to ask Mary to marry him, if she says yes, he will feel as merry as a berry, but if she does not, he will bury his head in shame.

I want you to play Mary and of course I'll play Barry. The kissing scenes alone are to die for. Rehearsals begin this evening in my dressing room (and bring a towel or two).

The last syllables  of each are pronounced the same, but if he buries his head in shame he will suffocate and Mary can merrily marry Larry.

When Larry and Terri divorced, Larry married Mary, and I had to be very wary around them, because Larry could become quite scary if anyone called Mary "Terri".  (True story, btw.)
