Want it both ways?

As a hypothetical, lets say our resident Trump basher did not ask all the morning questions. This place would be left to mostly questions like "will you pet me". Many seem to complain about the political questions, but seldom have questions (like me). I usually just ignore most of the totally nonsense questions, and try to find a middle ground. Something that I feel I can add to.

With people like Sapph, Didge, Virginia and many others, I hope no one else leaves. In my opinion, this place is getting to be a ghost town. It's all about diversity. As more people leave, we lose that diversity and are left with not much that interest the larger (shrinking) group.

  • To be honest with you? I've thought of moving on myself. I look and see three or four people online and not much to answer. I spoke quite a bit with Sapph before she left and I understand why. I've known Didge and Virginia from two previous sites and it wasn't only the politics that got to them.
I also scan through the questions but there hasn't been much lately to bother with.
Personally? If JA really cares about her site, she would have it moderated a bit more fairly and maybe talk to some members about what could be improved to lure more people back. The inactivity bores me and I move and do other things.
Sorry for my personal rant but that's just the way I see it. Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

  • I don't see it as a rant Rooster. I feel the same as you do. I appreciate all that are here, trying to keep things active and fun. At the same time, not sure I find much interest on AM. Not that it would be a loss, but I'm trying to figure out where else to spend some time.

  • Good question but I'm not sure exactly what would work. Maybe a poll for suggestions and the users could answer thing that they thought would help. I answer all kinds of questions including some of the silly ones s I like humor. I like it here also and have been looking at another site that is real busy but I haven't come to any conclusions though. I like the "R" rated status of it though.

Polls remain too hidden because they don't appear on the main page along with newly-posted questions, which results in extremely few people responding to the offered choices. The average poll receives fewer than ten responses, even though each poll might have 20 to 30 views, and/or about a dozen comments.
I've broached the question before as to why they can't be incorporated side-by-side with questions.  I don't understand why it hasn't improved.

I like polls.  I do not respond to many here both because you cannot see how people voted on them, and because you cannot opt out of receiving notifications on polls.

Notifications was on the list. I just added the ability to see how people voted. If you have more, please add it to the list: http://answermug.com/blogs/145/1721/mug-development-list

They appear in the activity feed with everything else... or are you referring to the "questions" page as the main page? Or are you referring to basic answers, rather than comments, not appearing?

Also, I wrote a blog on future developments. Have you popped over there to see if I've missed anything? The dev is set to start updating the main Q&A pretty much now. When we have that, he'll make the groups work like the main Q&A. So, if you have suggestions, get them listed now, please, so they get done while the dev is working on a specific section.

The sad truth is a majority of people here and anywhere offer little but seek a great deal. You have people who generally are interested in answers to questions they are interested in. They are motivated not to control the topic but to engage in discussion. We do have exceptions, as you mentioned, who are mostly agenda bent. Silly questions come from those on the way to giving up on seeking answers to questions few may be interested in answering, unfortunately because the vast majority are here not to be informed or contribute to discussion but here to be entertained. Silly questions at least offer that. This post was edited by O-uknow at May 10, 2017 9:33 AM MDT

I, for one, started out with silly from day one.  It's rare that I post any serious input.  Speaking of which, if you're not using that spare bedroom, may I move into it, please?  Thanks in advance.

Aye, indeed. Speak on. Speak the truth. Diversity works in the way it does at waterholes in the African Savannah. You have the lions, gazelle. rhinos and every other creature coming together for a common interest. It does not mean they like each other. If humans could learn to do what animals do they would at least tolerate each other. This post was edited by O-uknow at May 10, 2017 10:22 AM MDT
