Discussion»Statements»Rosie's Corner» Whether t'is Real or Fake, what is the real point of moving the US Israeli Embassy to Jerusalem? To insult Palestinians? What else?
Every other country in the world picks their capital city, why shouldn't Israel have their chosen capital city validated by countries placing their embassies there? Our should have been there from the start. It is showing support for Israel.
- How would that be an insult to the Palestinians ?
- I see it more as a result of campaign promises made to the Religious Right. An Indicator that the US is 'A Christian Nation', and particularly affiliated with the birthplace of Christ.
- On the other hand the Jews might see that as an insult, and pointedly wonder if the embassy is there to talk with them, or with their (quite small) minority of Christians.
Oops I got Betlehem confused with Jerusalem. Jerusalem is not particularly a Christian 'holy town'. So yes, an armed and well guarded American embassy there would be an insult to the Palestinians. And could even be seen as a threath.
I THINK Trump just said that to suck up to the Israelis while campaigning but he didn't really mean it. He does that a lot you know. But then I wonder what if Israel holds him to it? What happens then? Also remember Emperor Trump, without permission, shared classified information with the Russians that he had received in confidence from Israel. Now what in heck kind of message does that send? I sure wouldn't trust ANYONE ever again who did that. So I dunno JakobA. I guess we'll find out. Thank you for your reply! :)
I agree. Most of Emperor Trump's ideas are stupid in my opinion. I wonder how that particular promise will play out?

Both Bill Clinton and George Bush also made such assurances that our embassy would be moved to Jeruselum. The Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995 was passed to effect such a move. It included a provision, however, for the president to sign a 6-month waiver...which has happened every six months since the date of the mandated move under the past three administrations. Neither the promise to move the embassy, nor backing out of it (should Trump continue to sign the waivers) is unprecedented.
Actually I'm with my2cents on this one - a rarity. Israel shifted its capital from Tel Aviv to the ancient Judean capital of Jerusalem (where what remains of their Temple stands) in 1949, so such a move is well overdue. Are foreign embassies in the US located in DC, or New York? Same principle.
