Being President (or First Lady) is not all that different from being a 'Pretty Rich Person', You have a house staff for doing that sort of mundane tasks. And you have that in the White House too.
How many presidents can you remember who were NOT that kind of wealthy ?
Pearl is right, however, I think Mrs. Jimmy Carter probably did the cooking after the White House. They had that "down home" feeling you get from farmers.
