Comey testifies today. Will the Republicans try to change the subject to give the White House cover? Wll they try to savage Comey?

Burr was very rude to Senator Kamala Harris. He singled her out and accused her of being rude. When Senator Angus King was tough in his questioning he was not similarly accused of rude. I watched all of it and it went astonishingly well. Except for a several ridiculous nitpickers who questioned Comey the hearing went well and Comey came off as being forthright, honest and open. The jacka** who made it a point of saying Trump had said "I HOPE" and  was not ordering Comey to do anything was just blowing smoke out of his derriere. Trump was just "hoping". What bullsh**!  So far so good. Wonder what today will bring? Thank you for your reply Spunky!  :) Now Senator Harris is a Democrat from my state. She served us well as Attorney General before she ran for her current position. So I'm predisposed to notice what she says and how she is being treated. I think she is owed an apology from Burr. I won't hold my breath!  :(

Unfortunately, I was at work and wasn't able to watch the proceedings, but did catch the salient details on the news when I got home.  I didn't see what happened with Sen. Harris, but there are articles on it that I haven't yet gotten to read, but I will. 

I thought the hearing went much better than I thought it would.  I agree with your take on it.  I think that Comey was put between a rock and a hard place with that one-on-one meeting with Trump.  He couldn't say no, but he was clearly uncomfortable about it.  Too bad Trump has no idea what protocol dictates when it comes to things like this.  He couldn't go Sessions because he knew that Sessions was going to be in a bind of his own.  Comey made the best of two bad choices. 

It would have been better though if Comey had told Trump he was being inappropriate and just left.  He could have spoken up and said he wanted his boss Jeff  Sessions to stay in the room thereby confronting Trump in that way. Trying to handle Trump's obtusely inept bullying, even though he documented every word, was not the best choice. When he was asked by a Senator why he didn't do that he said he wasn't brave enough. Those were not the exact words he used but he said he was so shocked/stunned at the time that he was thinking about the words he should use in response and trying to process what was really going on. I guess I can understand that. When push comes to shove how brave would I be in those circumstances? You can't know until/unless you're in that situation. I thought he acquitted himself very well. I did see that part of his testimony on the news.  It had to be a very awkward moment for Comey.  How could he have disobeyed a direct order of the president to stay after everyone else was asked to leave?  Comey did say that he didn't tell Sessions about this because Comey knew that Sessions was likely about to be investigated and Comey didn't want to alert him to that possibility.  As it turned out, Sessions wound up recusing himself from the Flynn/Russia investigation because of his own involvement.  That should give some vindication to Comey. 

Did Comey do some things he shouldn't have done?  Absolutely and I'm sure if he could go back and do it over, he would change things up.  Do I think Comey's intentions were honorable, I do.  Comey, in his heart, knew that Trump is a liar and a cheat and he tried to cover himself as best he could.  Trump said that he never asked Comey for a loyalty oath.  when the reporter asked him if he was calling Comey a liar, all Trump would say was that he (Trump) never said that.  If he truly didn't say that, he would have confirmed that Comey lied.
