WW, I agree, and from what I've seen of you here, you are good at making others feel better! This post was edited by Veena.K at June 14, 2017 7:53 PM MDT

How timely for you to ask.  I ask the question yesterday, "Are you happy?" One person who I think a lot of answered that they were having a tough time and may become homeless.  I've been thinking about what words of encouragement I can offer but haven't come up with anything yet.  Any ideas?

I really don't know if words will help....especially if that person is on the verge of homelessness. What they need now is not lip sympathy, but some concrete help!

  • It seems to be something I'm naturally good at. For my all my social anxiety, when it comes to helping others feel better, that seems to be easy.

Serving and helping others is an innate need.  I think many of us are fulfilled by raising a family.  Others, volunteer work.  And others are natural listeners which is so often what people need that they don't have.  That is why counseling became such a hot career for a couple of decades.  And today, young people want to text instead of talking.  That is not how real relationships are formed.

This doesn't surprise me about you.

Not very. I am more prone to give practical (and often unwelcome) advice rather that sympathy.

You know Jane, my Hubby is exactly like you, he hates getting sympathy and giving sympathy, but he will do everything he can to help others, the other day, a neighbor was moving out, he went and casually gave him a hand, he didn't even mention it, I came to know later, from someone, people are ready to give sugary words of advice, but what matters is if it is genuine, honest...!
