No, the time for the American people to do that was in the 1970s.
But they got distracted by Corporatist Kleptocrats who shouted, "GUNZ, GOD, GAYZ, ABORTION! STOOPID EBIL LIBRUHLZ! BE AFRAID!" And the American people bought it over and over and over again.
Now that the Corporatist Kleptocrats have "liberalized" (in the sense of benefiting/subsidizing transnational corporations and the very rich) the world, 'Muricans want their country back? Personally, I don't think they have the stomach for the fight that would entail. It involves a LOT more than just showing up at a Trump rally.
The time for Americans to stand up to Obama was in the 70s?
Obama is merely the latest in a decades-long line of sellouts to the Corporatist Kleptocracy. But I guess he's the first one YOU noticed because Obama is a Nig...er, Nazi Kenyan Marxist Socialist Indonesiant Terrorist Communist Muslim....;-D....
First time I've seen the use of "Indonesiant" along with Nazi, Marxist, Socialist, Terrorist, ETC. I guess I am not the only person to recognize Indonesia as a hell hole country.
I'm afraid the recent visit of President Obama, and what he said, had little or no influence. It was generally recognised for what it was - President Obama doing a favour for his mate Dave and indeed, acting in the best interests of the US (and he was, make no mistake about that. This will cause the US inconvenient headaches in the coming years)
It's not a person - any person - US citizens need to stand up to. It's the pretence that politicians can work for the people while actively pursuing policy which doesn't benefit the majority. Those two things are not compatible.
I hadn't noticed Obama threatening and bullying us, but if he did I'd have told him what he could do with his threats. I voted for Brexit anyway, which I would have done regardless of what Obama thinks.
ETC? What does that stand for?
I think we should all take a deep breath, and sit back and watch the UK over the next 5 years....to see what effects this decision of their has on their economy and on trade. In my opinion, there will be an adverse effect. I believe that their decision was short sighted, and it will be interesting to see whether or not I am right. I think that cool heads, giving this sort of issue careful thought, should observe the UK before any such decision is proposed for the United States.
This is so pathetic
America would have to quash the Senate and the House to even attempt such a feat.
@bhwilson -- Sorry for the typo.
I have a friend who frequently travels to Indonesia (it has some of the world's best surfing). He reports some of it is nice, some of it is indeed poverty-stricken hell hole. Much like most places in the world.
Hello More:
Lemme see. 7.5 years into an 8 year term, and NOW is the time to stand up to him??? NOW??
excon
I don't remember him bullying or threatening anybody.
And at the end of his term they'll all be shouting, "We did it!"
Yeah, sure he did. Snore
Hello m:
In the face of this man, you remain above the fray. You're a better person than me..
excon
Oh yes, every time this stupid question hits the page I am bullied into reacting.
The Brits won this vote by a very narrow margin. Not much of an "influence"
Just a note; Obama has not done anything in the best interest of the US people let alone for the UK.
Obama's statement was if the UK left the EU we(US) would still do business with you but you will be way back in the line.
Yup
I'm fully aware of what he said, and I know why he said it. :)
The UK remaining in the EU is most definitely in the interests of the US - it's been a cornerstone of US European foreign policy for decades. This leaves the US with a major foreign policy headache - how to achieve the same things in Europe without an unofficial representative at the table.
That's a pain in the arse for any administration and it will cost a lot of money, effort and time to solve. If it can be solved.
Obama tried to warn them, Obama is not important in this anyway- He cared enough to try and reach their hardened hearts
