    It's not absolutely necessary... but yes, sometimes it's hard to be objective when you are in the centre of things..

    How true.  Especially if you are finding out a very unpleasant truth about someone you really trusted and cared about.  You don't want to believe they would ever throw you under a bus for sport.  But some do.  Once the emotion leaves the situation, you can look at it all objectively and move on.

    There are no shortage of weak minded people in this world that can never look past their own self absorbed world.

    There are people who believe they know the truth about something and will fight to the death to defend it.
    And unless a light comes on and they find out different they will go thru life like that.
