Yeah, along with the price of broccoli and every other freaking thing.  I love artichokes and I can't get them for less than $1.99 a piece!  I've finally turned into my grandmother.  I stand in the produce section bitching along with all the other old biddies about how I "never thought I would live to see the day that __________ costs $________!!!!"

    I need a life.  :-(

I do that too. I remember the five cent candy bars. I guess we are showing our age.

Hi Harry~ Maybe you should try the cucumber section.  You'll be surprised!  they've gone up in size!**
At my store they are very reasonably priced.  I think about a dollar.  I don't know if they are in season but they look firm and crisp. They're great to snack on.  Most people like them with dip.  I like them with salt. I know.  It's not good for me but I think it brings out their natural flavor.  Give them a try. Your body will thank you because they are really good for you :) :)

** I'm having a hard time writing this with a straight face ;))

Merlin, you should know me by now.

I am acutely and obsessively aware of the price and size of cucumbers.  As soon as I hit the produce section, it's my first stop.  FYI, I prefer the big English ones. ;-)

Harry, big giggles, you know I know you know I know!  That is why I was surprised to find you perusing the artichokes when the cucumbers can be much more inviting.  You know what it was?  I forgot to mention the most important fact.  It's not the size of the cucumber.  It's the English accent that makes them all the more tastier.  Winks and smiles!

I grow my own, slice and add a bit of salt. After a half an hour I dry off the moisture and put them in a mixture of vinegar, onions, a bit of water and lots of ground pepper. They are ready in an hour. Very refreshing. My wife likes them with sour cream.
