What does Trump mean, when he says, the Constitution "doesn’t necessarily give us the right to commit suicide, as a country"?

Hello:

He means that if he doesn't WANT to obey the Constitution, he doesn't HAVE to.

From his 60 Minute interview..  Stahl asked Trump whether his initial proposal to restrict Muslim immigrants ran afoul of the Constitution’s First and Fourteenth Amendments. Trump countered that constitutional concerns could be allayed by banning immigration from specific locales, as opposed to pursuing a blanket ban on Muslims. He then explained that the Constitution MIGHT take a back seat to his policy priorities.

Personally, I want my president to obey the Constitution ALL THE TIME!  You????

    What did Trump mean.

That is so funny.  You are hilarious.   Like HE KNOWS?   This is a dolt.  Remember that?  D O L T.

He can explain what he technically means, but he has NO CLUE how to enforce any of it, nor what any repercussions would be.   He is incapable of seeing past the election.

Philadelphia — DONALD J. TRUMP’S reprehensible call to bar Muslim immigrants from entering the United States tracks an exam question I’ve been giving my immigration law students since Sept. 11. Would such a proposal be constitutional? The answer is not what you might think — but it also raises the issue of what, exactly, we mean when we say something is “constitutional” in the first place.   (above link completes this)
