  • not all murder is premedicated. some people have to get killed while totally sober.

it's a weird world. we kill for gods and governments. we kill people for killing people in unsanctioned ways. some people can kill and live with that just fine. other people kill their inner-selves when they accidentally kill someone.

but yeah... it's murder when the intent is to kill.

No No....... what an offensive question to our military personnal.  I expect better of you Rosie.

What they do is not murder.  They are doing their job. Defending your rights to free speech, that you just used to call them a murderer.

They are doing anything unlawful or killing without justification.

Murder: The unlawful killing of another human being without justification or excuse.

premeditated: done with willful deliberation; planned in advance.

It has nothing to do with sobriety.

They  have orders that they have to follow, they kill or be killed, they have no choice, and for many of them, if not most, it changes their lives forever. Apparently you are on Obamas side in doing everything in your power to degrade the military. You may very well live to regret this decision.

    Pre medicated?

LOL  I think that is a Freudian slip of some kind.   Oh and by the way?  Murder is NOT premeditated.

Some is, some is not.  That is why the Courts have 1st, 2nd, 3rd degree and Manslaughter.

  • Most murders are crimes of passion. That aside, all soldiers are murderers and all who defend themselves are the same.

  • Actually "murder" is "killing that we don't approve of". Since we approve of military killing, it's not murder. The word's definition is very convenient.

I dunno about self-defense Polk. Maybe that would be a 3rd group? Killer/murderer/self-defender? When you say "crimes of passion" do you include hate? I usually think of crimes of passion as being due to sexual or emotional attachment gone awry. Thank you for your reply and Happy Thursday! :)

You are entitled to your opinion m2c as I am entitled to ask the questions I ask. Murder has been committed by troops. Slaughters in fact have been documented. You have an enemy. You seek him out with a weapon and you do not aim to disable/injure. You aim to kill. I call that murder. I see nothing wrong with using that word. You do. Different strokes for different folks. . Thank you for your reply.

  • This is not the case Rosie.

Wars are governed by international law - the Geneva Convention being the best known.  In a 'legitimate' war, normal civic rules are suspended to enable killing without direct or indirect personal responsibility, but rules still exist.  Deliberate killing of unarmed combatants or non-combatants is still murder.  Killing an enemy who is surrendering is murder.

Killing an enemy who is armed, not a civilian and, not surrendering, is allowable.  It's much more complex than that and there are variable 'rules of engagement' depending on circumstances, but so far as I'm aware, that's it in a nutshell.  :)

"Since we approve of military killing, it's not murder"

We? Who exactly are "we"? I'll tell you something, Nevan, that certainly doesn't include me. I am very much on the side of "War is Murder". How could it not be?

Thank you for your reply MrWitch. I know the question upsets some folks. Of course there are documented cases of American military SLAUGHTERING innocent people for kicks I guess or because they're bored or afraid or hate or just like the feeling of killing people.  Not the majority to be sure but I think it exists more than we are made aware of. Putting a loaded gun in peoples hands gives them the power and license to kill. It can also change them. Some people cannot handle it mentally or emotionally. We need to weed them out before it's too late and damage is done. Sadly we don't. :(.
