It doesn't upset me Rosie. :) There are many things we as societies would rather not know about, but to my mind that makes it even more important that they are discussed.
There are far fewer people with direct experience of conflict in the west than there were - something we should all be happy about. But that does bring a few problems with it, not least of which is the lack of understanding as to what conflict is sometimes like. Legal niceties are all well and good and should be upheld wherever possible, but few think about their legal position when they know their life and those of their friends is under direct threat. So 'accidents' and unacceptable behaviours will happen. They always have.
The unavoidable inference here is that if more people really knew what conflict can be like, there would be far fewer people willing to consider it.

You may call it murder but it is not. Murder is unlawful. What our soldiers do is not unlawful and it is needed to defend our rights. Obviously you do not have military in your family.....

Did you happen to see the subsequent question I asked MrWitch? Of course the word "premedicated" was a typo. It should have been "premeditated". But I asked a question using both words to play off the original typo . Are murderers premedicated? Are they on drugs or booze? Are they all nuts/insane/bonkers/mentally dysfunctional? I know when you are EXPECTED to kill it isn't your fault. You are just following orders. So you are not the one to blame. The Orderers are. However the military in America is voluntary. So these folks CHOSE to follow those orders. I wonder what the real reason for choosing to be in the military is? Many say it is to serve their country. Protect. That sounds very honorable and patriotic indeed. I wonder how true it is for how many people? How can we know and what difference does it make? Thank you for your thoughtful reply! Of course if the folks who sanction/order war had to fight in them there would be fewer wars...maybe none. If their children had to fight in them and couldn't get exemptions when there was a draft how many pols would willingly send their own children into battle? :(
