Judging a religion from the outside is tough. You just have to admit that you don't know enough.
The most restrictive I've been in is Roman Catholicism. Anti-abortion, that's okay, I feel the same way (for different reasons that I won't go into right now). Anti-contraception is completely incomprehensible (given that B prevents A) and morally indefensible. Venerating the saints, Papal infallibility, defending tradition in the face of Holy Writ - even the Inquisition still exists (under a different name) and the Pope Emeritus (a Nazi) once headed it.
The Uniting Church (a meld of the Methodist, Presbyterian and Congregational Churches) is fairly permissive, even to the ordination of openly gay clergy.
