My old CRT is dying.
#Old
Hello Mr.,
CRT??? You ARE old.. If I was you, I'd get a 90" Ultra HD. The brand is not too important.. They're all probably made in the same Chinese factory anyway.. Of course, it's expensive. But, you didn't ask about that.

What's a good on for $1,000?
Yes, I am old. But the TV worked and it seemed stupid to throw it away. It worked with my Roku and that's all I cared about.
It's not the budget, it's the room size. How far away will you be from the TV? Will you ever want 4K? If you want 4K, then there are limited choices that adhere to the UltraHD Premium standard. Here is a link to give you some information on the 4K options.

If you're only looking at 1080P TVs then Visio, Samsung, Sharp all make nice units. Just remember size is important.
I doubt I would want to go bigger than 50". Not even sure I can go that big.
Measure your space and then go look at one. A 50" 16:9 TV is much different than a 4:3 TV. 50" isn't as big as it sounds.
What I have done in the past is put something where my TV would be and then measure to where people will sit. Then at the store, I measure out those points and see how the TV looks.
I've been TV free for 20 years. Try it!
