Do you add eggs to your mashed potatoes?

My teenage son walked in while I was mixing up mashed potatoes last night and he recoiled when he saw me add the egg. He asked if I was going to cook it after, and I explained that the potatoes were hot enough to cook the egg, and I even checked the temperature of the mix to prove it. Despite the fact that this is how I've made mashed potatoes for the past 15 years, and I learned the trick from my MIL, so it's the only way he's had potatoes in all that time, he refused to eat them.

Eggs make the potatoes creamier and tastier, IMO. Is this how you make your mashed potatoes too?

  • I have never encountered such a thing.  It seems like madness or wickedness.  Your son is wise. This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at July 6, 2017 9:53 PM MDT
