I did ask one of the workers there. She looked perplexed. We actually have local farms within our city who provide much of the fresh produce in the summer, which means some of it is actually home grown.
We actually have a farmer's market here and a lot of the stuff is home-grown. When you go and talk to the people running the stalls, you can find out exactly what their process is, how/ where the food was grown, and what their harvesting procedure is. Many did grow in their yards. The same goes for artisan goods. It's very cool. It's more expensive than the traditional store, so I haven't been in ages, but for a long time, I was on a first-name basis with the farmer who grew most of the produce my family ate and the lady who made our fruit spreads. Oh, and the guy who made my soap. It was wonderful.
