And to you as well. I like that you at least stopped a moment to say bye. I am sure we will someday meet again. It happens all the time, but in the meantime, bon voyage and very best to you always.
Thanks, texasescimo. It was used as the closing song of the TV series "Northern Exposure." YouTube used to have a video of the closing moments of the show with that song in the background, but it got pulled. DeMent wrote an extra verse just for the show and it's in this video along with another new verse since then. I was a little surprised to hear both of them. The original recording didn't have either ... of course.
You're welcome ALF. I never heard of DeMent or the song before. My wife heard the song while she was working at her desk while I was watching the video. She also thought it was a beautiful song. I've never seen "Northern Exposure". Does it still come on?
I don't believe so. The Hallmark Channel was the last network to own the rights. Some of the episodes and clips online, their quality isn't always the same as the original, but it will give you a small idea of what it's like. The show is available on DVD if you decide that you're hooked ... like I was. Here's a small sample (at least the music is the right speed ... most of the full episodes I found, it's too fast).
Based in Alaska? I love Alaska. My middle son lived there about 5 years. That's where he met my daughter in law. If it ever starts back on TV or cable while I still have it, I'm watching it.
Not based in Alaska, sorry ... Roslyn,WA., like on the cafe sign that the moose walks in front of at the beginning of the clip (they added the little "S" to make it look like the owner's name instead of the town's name ... just for the TV series). Don't be too disappointed though. Not all the filming was done in town. There's a lot of beautiful scenery in the show.
