WHAT?????????????? Really? Sh**. I didn't know this if it's true. He directed my all-time favorite movie - - 1968 "Night of the Living Dead." He**, a scene from that movie has been my avatar forever.
I'm out of here. :(
UPDATE: I'm OK, just upset. The guy made many great, great movies -- there'd be NONE of all this living dead/walking dead/zombie ripoffs without his original 1968 vision. Blahblahblah. Sad, yes.

I was thinking about the movie more since reading your comment and thinking about my reply to you. I liked "Martin" a lot more than just "liked it a lot." :)
You're SO right, Judas Goat! I've only seen the movie twice. And I doubt if I'll ever watch it again, I don't know. A couple of great friends recommended the movie to me but warned me that it was very emotional. Yeah, it's devastating.
The second time I watched the movie, I was sharing it with my parents. My mom, (most likely rightly so when I think about it), toward the end, just stood up and left the room and she refused to watch any longer. She said on the way out of the room, " I can't take any more of this misery." :)
Thanks for sharing your comment, Judas Goat. Shar to the Rona and I have talked often about how much we admire the movie, too. :)
