Discussion»Statements»Rosie's Corner» Labeling something that's TRUE as FAKE NEWS is the real FAKE NEWS. Very clever or very dumb to say what's true is fake? Why?
While I do not deny that there have been instances where the news media was guilty of reporting false stories or embellishing true stories, to me the term 'fake news' means that a story that is true, but it really not that newsworthy is sensationalized in order to draw in viewers and raise the ratings or is downplayed in order not to lose viewers. News is not a public service, it is a source of revenue. Each news outlet knows its target audience and slants the news to keep them coming back and draw in new viewers. Making an effort to follow and analyze stories from multiple sources, instead of following only sources that reinforce our pre-existing views, can help us to better understand what is news and what isn't.
