Home or vacations/holidays - which would you prefer to spend your money on, if you had to choose?

I've just spent nearly £700 on re-doing my fish pond... it's a lot of money to me...  We were talking at work and they were saying... they would rather spend their money on holidays.  One ex but still pops in a lot, colleague had wanted to build an extension for her house but says she has spent money on loads of lovely holidays this year... another colleague is going to America in a few weeks and always has lovely holidays...

I'm not having any vacation this year... mainly because I have to be home to drive daughter to her volunteering over the summer period.. but I don't have any money anyway as my house and my pets take a lot of money...  And that's ok... we all make choices... or some things are more pressing than others... but at the same time I do find I am missing not having a vacaton this year.. On balance I am probably happy with what I have done... I'd just really like to have enough money to do both :P

That must be a great feeling :) I am the opposite... I never traveled once I married and I married  very young.. So now that I am, of the age I am, I kinda vowed that I would travel more....and I have.. but not nearly enough... so travel is important to me still

    Home.

I like to know that I am taken care of and then go on a holiday.  So far, I don't feel quite all that stable yet.

You can go on sensible vacations.  Staying in resorts and eating out every meal is not sensible.  We are making a two-and-a-half month tour of Scandinavia at this moment.  In the end it won't cost us much more than the air fare because we are exchanging homes with Swedes, Norse and Danes.  How would you like to visit Florida?  If you live in a nice area, say the Lakes District, we could exchange homes for a couple of weeks next summer.
