I have found "Mutts" that are rescued to be the best

  • They are the best, and have fewer health issues than pure breeds. I had a collie/shepherd once and he was the best dog in the world.

I've had purebred Golden Retrievers, Norwegian Elkhounds, and German Shepherds  (The German Shepherd was from a rescue organization for the breed.) All the others have been rescue "mutts" from either the pound or through one of the local pet stores.

The purepreds were magnificent dogs. They are prone to specific disabilities that you can almost expect to occur...  The mutts are equally magnificent in their own ways and tend to simply grow old and then go to the Rainbow Bridge..

Yes, I love all dogs; and I try to let them become whatever they were born to be. This post was edited by tom jackson at August 25, 2017 1:31 PM MDT

  • "Shetland Sheepdog" ... if I were to get another dog,
it would probably be a Sheltie.

  • My friend had one, they are very smart dog, and very beautiful. I'm partial to collies, and these are close enough.

  • They are cute, but a little too hyper for me. My aunt had about 5 of them.......It was interesting going to see her. She has 35 acres way out in the country so they did have plenty of room to run around.

Best dog we have had is our current one, she is a long haired doxie.
I also like big dogs but not in the house.

Collies are one of my favorite breeds. Had one growing up and she was fiercely loyal with such a big personality. And beautiful, not to mention. I love all big dogs; Saint Bernard or Newfoundland dogs are so sweet to me!!

  • The best dog I had was a collie/shepherd mix. He was very loyal as well as very smart. If I ever get another dog, I'm going to try to find this mix.

They are SO smart. I can't wait until I have a home/lifestyle that suits owning a big dog.

  • Same here. I currently live in an apartment and don't have room for a dog. :(

I finally have an apartment that's dog-friendly, but my work schedule varies so much that I don't think I'd be able to give a dog the kind of attention that it deserves.
