Indeed! Even when a player gets injured, they just leave him there! Seems a little indifferent to me, like Roman Gladiators. "Oh well, there goes another one."
The trainers and physios come out to injured players, you don't see it on TV often because play has already moved to another part of the field (it's a huge playing area and the ball moves quickly- none of this ten minutes to go ten yards stuff, it can go 150 yards in thirty seconds). If a stretcher is required, the game is stopped. Our boys are made of pretty stern stuff - Adelaide follower Rory Sloane, obviously concussed and dazed, heaved himself to his feet and waved the trainers away. He refused to leave the field until his captain (the guy with the porn star moustache) practically ordered him off.
Sorry. I was kidding. I've watched enough to know what you say is true. Our football players are lucky to make into the Pros without being maimed first and many have their careers cut short by injury. It must be even tougher for your guys to have a long career.
(To the tune of the US Marines' Hymn) We're the pride of South Australia And we're known as the Adelaide Crows We're courageous, stronger, faster And respected by our foes Admiration of the nation Our determination shows We're the pride of South Australia We're the MIGHTY Adelaide Crows
