Recycling centers are closing left and right and the average global temperature continues to rise. Should society abandon

programs that do not work or continue on life disruptive courses that prove to have only negligible effects?

    That is a highly skewed perspective.  It does help a LOT.  It promotes consciousness in the sense that others become aware of the need for it.   The need for it is not useless.  The need for elimination of poisoned waters and gas fumes in the air is controllable. 

    So, you are talking out of your g ass tank.
