Should your face be redesigned and your body updated?

  • Updating faces and bodies? As if our physical selves were clothes in a wardrobe?

We've had fashions in beauty ever since we learned how to make images, but I think they're not necessarily helpful.

If someone is disfigured to the point where it causes a dysfunction or disability then possibly operations might be a good idea, if he or she wants to go through all that.

But I've known some people with malformations. Their disfigurement has made them much better and nicer people than most of the "beautiful" people around them. They learned to pick who was who because the reactions acted like a reliable filter.

I rather enjoy the fact that we're all different. If we celebrate uniqueness as beauty, then I think we would end up with fewer emotional problems around appearances.

  • Ha!  I wish.  The second doesn't work properly and the first was never much to shout about to begin with.

  • I didn't have to.

My idea of an essay is 5-600 words.

Set me a topic and I'll gladly write one for you

(as long as it's not an assignment for someone's coursework.)

I know most people prefer short and funny

but I'm not clever enough to have that kind of wit

and if an issue has serious implications I like to address them.

I could avoid answering your questions if you prefer.

  • You say 5-600 words for an essay. That's between 5 and 600. :0)
