Do you believe the winning side of a war should not allow the losing side to retain memorabalia representing their cause and bar them

from erecting places of honor for their heroes lest descendants generations later fight the same war anew? It was a mistake to allow the Confederates any places of honor and a mistake not to outlaw their flag from being flown in any government capacity.

    Removing statues of confederate generals and others associated with the south and the Civil War is an attempt to rewrite history.  You can take down all those statues, remove all the confederate flags, but you cannot change the fact that the south was the loser.

    GREAT idea, except for that pesky 1st Amendment to the US Constitution.

    But even if that weren't the case those monuments should stand as testimony to the fact that humans, even good humans, can make terrible mistakes. Those mistakes should be remembered so that there is some measure to NOT repeat tham.

    Not usually but in the south, yes.  Unless you have lived there it's hard to imagine the mind set of some southerners.  For many the civil war never ended.  Hatred has been passed down through the generations. Anything that reinforces their continuing sickness should be removed for future generations.
