I know that perfection probably doesn't exist, but I think this song is The Most Perfect Song I've Heard.

"Ode to Billie Joe" by Bobbie Gentry

I've said it all before - - but I love all of this record. The poetry of the lyrics, Gentry's performance, the musical background arrangement.

What do you think? Do you have a song in mind that approaches perfection to you?

Yeah, I like this song, too, Beans/SilentGeneration. Thanks!
And I really like the "stage set and the musicians in it" for this performance! Visually striking.

I remember the movie. Sad story!

There are so many songs that love, love, love. This is one that I feel has a beautiful combination of lyrical content/meaning, musical accompaniment and an exquisite voice.

I refuse to watch the "Ode to Billie Joe" movie -- for fear it will put specific plot/details in my head that don't exist in Gentry's song. If that makes sense.
    :)

This "Not Alone" is very nice! I liked everything about it that you mentioned. Except I must admit I missed quite a bit of the lyrics - - I just couldn't quite distinguish words at times.
    :(
    I still like it anyway!

Okay... but you're missing out on a very young, very cute, very shirtless Robby Benson. Just sayin'! ;)

Oh, I almost forgot about the song. I have a real problem hearing/comprehending song lyrics, and I guess I'm a bit OCD about knowing them. My trick is to find a vid with lyrics onscreen, or at least open up another window with the lyrics. I think there's a version of this song on youtube that has lyrics, if you're interested.

There are two lyrics (can I say lyrics anymore in this post? :P) in this song that I think are some of the best ever.  One is the line that says "So you let time forget the past, and go and make some other plans". The other is "Nothing really matters in the end, all the worries sever. Don't be afraid for me, my friend, someday we all lay down forever".

    Simple, but incredibly powerful.

Getting ready to go to work. Yeah, this song would be a good one for me to watch a video with the lyrics added.
    :)

    I got nothing...
    But I agree with you
    excellent song.
    but wait...
    A song by Eva Cassidy
    comes to mind
    but can't remember the name
    or "Peace like a river"
    by Paul Simon.
Tried a hundred times to post videos
    successful one time
just to frustrating to try anymore.
people have even explained process step by step
but still no luck. Oh well... This post was edited by Baba at August 20, 2017 7:02 PM MDT

That's one of the most flattering images I've seen of Paul Simon in the hooded jacket.

Hi Baba, I listened to the Paul Simon song that you mentioned and LyricalOne posted. I liked.
    :)
It seemed a bit different than the stuff I've heard from him. Nice!

There is an easy way.  Copy the URL of the youtube video  and then click the icon above (two icons to the left of the upload button) and paste the url on the top line.  Then click the red button at the bottom of the answer or reply window.  Try one more time, will ya.  :)

Think I'd use the word "timeless" rather than perfection.......
