I thought The Pointer Sisters were singing but it was Whitney Houston . . .

For the longest time, I thought The Pointers Sisters were singing "How Will I Know?" until at some point I found out it was Whitney Houston. No doubt Whitney is great but I still think the song sounds more like a potential Pointer Sisters song. And they'd be great at it -- love those sisters!

Have you ever had the wrong artist in your head when hearing a song?

That sounds like the Pointer Sisters to you?

    No way, Jose'.

Plus she only has one voice.

    Yeah, you're right, but . . .  :)

I believe this was Whitney's first hit maybe - - or at least it was the first song I had heard from her -- I didn't know who she was. Yes, I admit that the song sounds similar to The Pointer Sisters to me.
    :)
And at several spots in the song, at the chorus and "Don't trust your feelings" spots. to me it sounds like more than one singer.
    :)
Perhaps - - most likely- - it's all Whitney just overdubbed or something.

Anyway, I know you're right -- now that I'm very familiar with Houston's voice, it sounds like her. (And still a bit like The Pointer Sisters! Ha!)

Thanks for answering, Shar to the Rona!
    :)

Yeah, well, I just said that it didn't sound at all like Whitney who has only one voice.

So why would you ask me if I thought it was the Chipmunks.  That made no sense to me.

You posted this as a separate answer which made no sense to me.

Oh.  I knew we would find the reason behind all this.

Let's move on.  Onward and upward.

I thought Smiley Virus was singing Bruce Springsteen. He had the title first.

Smiley can only wish to be equated with Bruce.
    :)

And if you want to, listen to Miley's song again -- when it first came out, I though for sure in the choruse she was singing " I came in like a RAINNNN -- Bow !!"
    :)

    I'm idiotic at times.
    :)
    But a nice idiot.

Springsteen? Are you criticizing Springsteen? Best go elsewhere then. Them's fighting words.

I don't like that song and I don't really like him much either.  (sorry)  He's got a few good ones.

Lol.... a few? Three plus hours worth at a typical (sold-out) Springsteen concert. Not too shabby for a 67 year old man with a career spanning more than 40 years.

Best to move on here as well.......

  • "I thought, for a very long time, that this voice was the voice of Elvis Presley."

    Terry Stafford - "Suspicion"

Oh, YEAH!! I would think the same thing!
Except this guy is a bit more attractive in a cuter way than Presley in my opinion -- though that has nothing to do with the logistics of your answer, I realize, ALF! (Like you said, before music videos and the internet)
    :)
    It's a nice song, too -- I hadn't heard it before.

Ha! Someone else besides us thought the same thing, ALF! This video was suggested after I listened to your post. A mix of both Stafford and Presley singing the song!
    :)

  • I didn't think Elvis that ever recorded it, but it seems like I was wrong.  They are quite different though.

Yeah, that's way different than either that "mix" or Stafford's version. I like Stafford's version better, based upon my initial quick listenings just now to them.
    :)
But Presley's is good, too. This post was edited by WelbyQuentin at August 22, 2017 8:45 PM MDT

Love Whitney.  She tried, but never was able to dance.  She walks and marches, but not dance.  Its endearing.

Yeah, I like her singing a lot, too.
