Wanna buy an historic castle? The former home of Richard III and Henry the VIII? Got 1.1 million pounds? Are you an Anglophile?

It is Sheriff Hutton Castle in North Yorkshire. The castle is in ruins but there is a Warden House and annex with 4bedrooms, 2 reception areas and a farmhouse kitchen as well as garages and out buildings. The adjoining Court Cottage has 2 bedrooms and dining room. There is a double moat. The property is 10 miles north of York and is 11.5 acres.  Any Anglophiles out there who want a "vacation" home with historical provenance??

Since I am a distant relative of British royalty, I should have an opportunity to buy this unit. So, if you would, send a small donation to me. Thank you.

And my ROI (return on investment) would be what exactly bh? The satisfaction of knowing that I contributed money to someone with Royal antecedents? Let me think about it. On face value that is an offer I have no problem refusing. On the other hand perhaps further consideration would be appropriate and warranted. Now if you can confer a title upon me like Dame I could be persuaded. Dame Rosie G.  There is nothing like a dame! That would be quid pro quo don'tcha know? Thank you for your reply and Happy Saturday! :)

For $1, you get a free tour of the castle.  For $2, you get to sit in on a session of Parliament and hang out with the Liberals!

Now now, the house of lords are really not liberals.. Things aren't black and white like that here. Traditionally lords are conservatives but again nothing's set in stone

Of course you do honey. Though I think more properly you'd be considered a citizen who is very proud of her country. I'm drawn to Brits. Always have been. Aussies too. I think it's because they are straight-shooters, not bull sh**ers, and when they disagree they don't attack me personally.  Dry wit. Subtle humor. Thoughtful  and informed exposition. I do have a confession though. I'm not a Monty Python fan! I  know. Please don't tell anyone. I'm probably the only person in the world who isn't. I saw one movie though of theirs that totally cracked me up. I don't remember the name of  it but there were battle scenes and this one guy kept fighting despite losing his limbs. Soon he was nothing but a torso with a head and still combative. Now that's funny. Thank you for your reply and Happy Saturday. Oh. I had a daughter-in-law who introduced us to HIGH TEA. Very elegant. A variety of teas and small sandwiches and pastries.  We had that overlooking the Pacific Ocean at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel on the Veranda in Honolulu when she and my son lived there. Many years ago. We also enjoyed it once locally at the Mission Inn Hotel. That's a very classy extremely expensive well-known hotel in Riverside!  Boy once I get started I just keep going! Yikes!  :) This post was edited by RosieG at September 2, 2017 2:13 AM MDT

I like Aussies too.. even though they tease us Brits mercilessly :P  I am not a Python fan either.. there are a few things I like.. but I was never that big on them.. thought they were silly and over-rated a fair bit. I preferred the movies and I DO like Michael Palin -he went on to do round the world serieses and he was fabulous in those.. I went to see him live, talking about his latest book.. really smart, funny, cool guy. I love the song, Always look on the bright side of life :)

That graphic is VERY HEAVY m'dear. I'll run the video. Never heard of the song.   I do that but I can't quite relate people being nailed to crosses as looking on the bright side unless the bright side is you are looking AT them and not AMONG them! Thank you for your reply. It takes a certain sense of humor to appreciate folks like The Three Stooges. I lack it very bigly! :)

There are some truly gorgeous chateaus... Property is cheaper in France than here in the uk. Lots of Brits have moved over there and even bought chateaus

Really? I've never been to London or Paris but it seems to me that Paris would be pricier. Not so? Who knew? Have you ever been in Harrod's Addb? I have heard that is marvelous store. I love marvelous even though I can't afford it. They don't charge you just to go in and look do they? :)

I've no idea if London is more expensive than Paris.. I see no reason why it wouldn't be as London's pretty popular too and when I looked it seems London is more expensive.. lol I think it's just Americans love Paris more :P
    https://parispropertygroup.com/blog/2016/paris-london-tale-cities-real-estate-prices/

However comparing London and Paris to house prices, or even chateau prices would be misleading.. everything is more expensive in London and Paris compared to the countryside.. and most chateaus are out in the country.. with the decline in farming in both UK and France land prices tend to be cheaper than they were..

Yes, I have been to Harrods, just the once.. it was amazing and no, I didn't buy anything lol.

Of course London has ROYALTY and  Big Ben (though isn't it currently being repaired?/ ) and double decker buses. I am a Foodie however and French cuisine (especially the exquisite cheeses) would attract me before anything. That's what a Foodie is. Stomach first! No I'm not overweight. I'm lucky in that I can eat whatever I want and as much and I don't gain weight. It was not always that way but something changed when I became 35 and ever since then it's been smooth sailing weight-wise! I've often thought if I were wealthy enough I would travel the world dining at all the great restaurants. The famous ones and the small local out-of-the-way-off-the-beaten-path known only to the residents. Thank you for your reply! :)

  • Thanks for your reply, Adaydreambeliever. Truly gorgeous indeed. It's interesting that Brits have moved to France because property is cheaper, because on my first trip to Oregon I heard that some Oregonians resent Californians for coming to their state and buying up a lot of their land. Small world, isn't it. :))

Yes, that's a universal truth.. Wales has the same problem...English move there cos it's pretty and cheaper...same with France.. and yes of course they resent it. On the other hand one of the reasons the property, particularly where I live, and in London is so expensive is... that people move here from Wales and everywhere else because there are more jobs..  Seems you can't have both lots of jobs and cheaper property.

  • Yes, I'd buy it. What would make it even better would be if Richard III's maligned reputation is in fact as true as Shakespeare portrayed him.
