I'm hoping that some of our more liberal friends can answer this, as it is a good question. We wouldn't have to look any farther than this site for the answer to the mystery.
My political views are merely an extension of who I am as a human being.
I try my best to live a life based on having compassion for others and recognizing that we are are just humans, with different desires/challenges/quirks/abilities, trying to make our way in this world. My compassion runs thin for those who allow their desires/challenges/quirks to impose harm upon others either deliberately or extremely carelessly.
I'm intolerant of intolerance, and I suppose that isn't "right", but I do not see that changing. I have a hard time respecting the beliefs of others, when their beliefs directly condemn or infringe upon the beliefs and rights of others. Other than that, I'm of the "worry about yourself" school of thought.
It's only in recent years that I've realized where who I am as a person fits into the political world. Personally, I think that's how it should be.
So you would not be tolerant of Racists or Bigots or Pedophiles or Murderers etcetera etcetera etcetera. I saw an interview a few years ago with Lady Gaga. Very impressive young woman. Her flamboyant in-your-face original iteration was specifically to show people that you CAN BE whom you are and still be successful. You don't have to fit into someone else's idea of whom you SHOULD be just because of their views. As her success became huge she didn't need to wear a raw meat dress any longer to make her point. She even made records with Tony Bennett. You should be you PROVIDING that you does not harm others or use others or abuse others or subject them to religious/political boxes of which you approve. Thank you for your thoughtful reply SA and Happy US Labor Day Monday! :)
