I went through Hurricane Andrew.   It was bad.  That one leveled the town of Homestead next door to me in  South Florida around Miami and Ft. Lauderdale.

But the worst all-round weather every year are winters in Chicago.   Those are horrendous, we put up with it every year.  But it was not for the faint of heart.

Wind chill factors go -60 degrees.   It can really suck.

I was in an earthquake in San Francisco that knocked me off my bunk bed and made me bite my tongue in half ( if i wasnt missing my two front teeth at the time i would have bitten my whole tongue off) Other than that, nothing really jumps out at me. Oh, we had a little tornado ten miles down the road about a month ago that tore up a beach sign. Thats about it.

I've lived in California most of life..southern California..so I've experienced a few that got my notice too! Are tornadoes the things that if they are strong enough they can pick up cows and homes and trucks and fling them about?  A funnel cloud heading toward you with a very quiet eye in the middle? I think that would be scary. Thank you for your reply cp. Was that the earthquake that collapsed a freeway...I think it might have been the Nimitz?  My son lived up there then. He was attending Cal Berkeley. It took hours to reach him by phone because many phone lines were down. It was a very scary time for me long-distance wise. That was a very bad one.  :)

Blizzard of '78.  5 a.m. and the electric goes out.  No heat. Temp in home dropped to 10f.  I made an effort to drive to town where mom's house had heat. Couldn't get out of my street because it was blocked by snowdrifts and abandoned cars. 24 hours later, the sun came out and I walked the 5 miles to town. Had to walk up on top of the snowdrifts that buried all the cars.
