Efforts are being made to save a little girl whose name may be Frieda. In Mexico. Buried under debris. Did you hear?

For the oldtimers among us remember Kathy Fiscus? A 3-year girl who fell down a well April  8, 1949? This reminds me of that.

I'm sure that right now there are kids being damaged all over the globe.   There are kids buried in Russia, China, India, Brazil and everywhere.

How about focusing on what is right here that we need to address and leave Mexico to the Mexicans?

We have a hurricane situation  right here.  In America.  Probably hundreds of animals and children  have been compromised.  This just happened to us.  Just the other day.  Why do you have to travel to Mexico to worry about something?

Frieda is one kid out of hundreds of thousands, probably millions that are in dire straights somewhere else.  Not here.  Let's deal with our own situations that are worse than anything  we can do in Mexico right now.

Just..... wow. Even on my crappiest of days, if I can't take a second to focus on the safe return of a little girl buried under a pile of debris anywhere in the world, you might as well shoot me because I've lost my humanity. Love and compassion don't stop at some arbitrary dividing line between countries.

    Is this Sapphic Heart?

That is not what I said, Sapphic Heart.

I am saying that this is not news.  Kids are hurting everywhere.  We don't have to go to Mexico to get a story like this.

It has zero to do with heartlessness regarding children.

Mexico has plenty of people over there to handle this.

Should I now post a story about some poor bloke in England that is on the streets dying of cancer?  If I don't respond with a bleeding heart, does that mean I don't care?

NO.  It means I think we have bigger fish to fry right now. This post was edited by WM BARR . =ABSOLUTE TRASH at September 21, 2017 9:59 AM MDT

Thank you for mentioning that. That's sad. I haven't seen her in the news yet. I do care about her as well as the others suffering, losing lives, losing loved ones in that terrible earthquake as well as those affected by hurricanes Harvey, Irma, Maria and others. All most can do is pray for those in the distance but sometimes some are able to help physically, especially those more closer to home.

When I first started reading your comment about Kathy Fiscus, I thought of Jessica McClure and a similar incident in Midland Tx in 1987.

Sorry you were chastised for mentioning that. When the spotlight of cameras brings images of an individual baby to our living rooms via TV or internet or whatever, it often tugs at our hearts and I can respect that. There are a lot of other things asked on answermug that have far less value to me so nothing wrong at all with you mentioning this, in my book anyway.

Thank you for this really comforting reply tex. I trust you. You will let me know if I have gone over the line. I haven't checked yet on the status of that child. The last I heard yesterday there may have been a few more with her who were still alive. It is heartbreakingly sad. I think the school just collapsed and about 20 children died. They were able to pull out of the rubble 10 or so alive. Then they heard signs of life and went toward it. I had forgotten about Jessica McClure. Thank you for bringing her up. You know when this magnitude of tragedy or rather multiple tragedies hits all our petty complaints become exceedingly insignificant. Happy First  Day of Autumn Friday in the USA m'dear! :) ((hugs))

Latest information is that there was no little girl afterall. Every one was present and accounted for. 1949 was a bit before my time. I did not come into the world scene until the 50s. :)  This post was edited by Autumnleaves at September 22, 2017 4:26 AM MDT

I just googled Frieda Mexico. Everything switched over to Frida Sofia. Apparently most news sources are now saying that she never existed.

If made up, I don't understand why anyone would do that? Aren't there legitimate people that are trapped and being dug out of rubble?

You mean it was a hoax?  Why do people do that tex? Purposely play on the emotions of others to what end? I don't get it. Thank you for letting me know about that.  It's not the first time I was conned  nor will it be the last. Of course I'm glad it wasn't real. Still...what kind of people engage in that kind of deception? :(

I dunno RosieG. We kinda gotta rely on the media for distant concerning issues like the devastating earthquake in Mexico. They don't always have reliable sources and sometimes the news sources themselves try to get a better story or even sway the opinion of their viewers.

For ratings? Could it be as simple as that tex? It is a very sad commentary on the way things are then. Isn't it? SIGH.
