No, but I once told a director of my company off.

In all fairness, the guy hated me for personal reasons that I won't go into here. But, the gist of it is that he showed up at my restaurant one day and was displeased with some things, and he told me to take notes. We were supposed to have our "pocket planners" on us at all times, and I had left mine on the desk in back. Out of the blue, the guy says, "You know what your problem is? You act like an airhead." I was like, "Excuse me?" And he repeated it, but the second time he called me an airhead.

At this point, all my employees are standing at the front counter watching us, and they heard what he said and they all went silent. I was pissed, but I figure, if the guy has something constructive to say, I'll hear him out, just not where my employees can hear. Him saying anything about me in front of them was not cool.

So, without considering the connotation, I say to him, "We should take this outside."

Dun dun dun. The guy thinks I've just challenged him to a physical fight, and I don't catch on that's what he assumed I meant. He refuses to go outside with me, and I tell him he doesn't know sh!t and to get the hell out of my store. He pipes up with a "You can't talk like that to me! I'm a director." I say, "I don't give a f*ck who you are. Nobody comes into my store that I spend 60+ hours a week in and disrespects me in front of my employees. Get out!"

Well, he left. But, the aftermath was not good. lol I believe I was 19 at the time. I blame my age. lol

  • In an earlier job, when i was about 24, I told my superior that if he wanted to give me a dressing down he should call me into his cabin, not in front of my colleagues. Some of my colleagues giggled at that unfortunate use of words, and I was dismissed that very afternoon.
Such are the consequences one has to bear when one's a daughter of a professor of English, speaking to a man whose command over the language is grossly inept. This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at September 23, 2017 11:17 PM MDT
