More than 50 dead so far. 200 injured. Deadliest mass shooting in US History. Las Vegas Country Music Festival this time. Is your city next?

The shooter, Steven Paddock, was a convicted felon. He's dead. The weapons he used were military style meant to be used in war. Convicted felons aren't supposed to be able to own guns. Where did he get them? Who knows? His female companion is Marilou Danley. Whether she was involved in it or an unknowing bystander hasn't been determined yet. Another crisis. Another tragedy. Life in these United States. :(

    First thing I heard on the news this morning. Tragedies are almost a daily occurrence these days but this one shocked me more than most. Those poor people would have been terrified when they realized what was happening. Their loved ones waking up to find out that they have lost their loved one to senselessness or finding out their loved one was wounded or for some even just knowing your loved one was there but possibly not ave been in contact with them yet to see if they are a victim or survivor. Yesterdays news mentioned a woman in Duncanville that was abducted, robbed and raped by two men wielding a gun only to have a third man meet up with them later to rape her again and then we have terror attacks in France and Canada yesterday not to mention the hurricanes and earthquakes the last month.

     The last I heard  59 are dead and 527 injured. I haven't checked on the statistics today. If the numbers change they won't be going down. Beyond shock and disbelief and revulsion what words are there to help us understand the why? We live in dangerous times.   They seem to be getting more so, not less.     My town has fewer people in total than were at that festival. As a soft target it's of little value.

    I think he's a bit old to be an Islamic terrorist. I wonder what his motive was? Just went off the deep end or lost money in Vegas or ...?

    Sounds like it was definately premeditated.  The floor he was on has been booked solid for weeks. Family is claiming they saw no warnings signs.

    It was a 3 day country music festival. This was the headline performance, Jason Aldean. That is why many thought it was fireworks at first as part of the finale to the festival.
    Yes, the bullets were aimed at the concert attendees. From the hotel room he had a perfect view...like fish in a barrel is how the news put it. This post was edited by my2cents at October 3, 2017 12:36 AM MDT

    Officers identified him as Stephen Paddock, a 64-year-old man from Nevada. They believe he was the only attacker, and that he killed himself before they arrived.

    A statement from ISIS claimed that the attack was their doing, and that Paddock converted to Islam "a few months ago." The FBI contradicted this claim, saying that Paddock had "no connection with an international terrorist group."

    Nothing I have read recently mentions Paddock being a felon, but that may not yet have been confirmed.  The woman he was with has been questioned and released by the police and is not a suspect.  There are reports that she has left the country for the Philippines, but that is not confirmed yet either as far as I know.

    I find it somewhat hard to believe that this woman didn't have a clue what he was up to. Not in the sense of her being involved, just information you'd glean from being a roommate. Still early days though, who knows what will be uncovered.
