Is it insensitive to find humor in tragedy?

A photo captured a man running with a beer during a London terror attack.

And a little admission of my own: "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas" - My initial reaction/first thought when I head about the Vegas shooting. I didn't openly say it tho. Just thaught about it, kept it to myself.

Probably not. If he paid in cash, and if he's a tourist, they probably won't  know his identity.

I had a couple of similar thoughts, but like you, I kept them to myself.

I get thoughts like that, too. It's best to just keep it to yourself or only share with others who have a sick sense of humor.

I see it more as a coping mechanism than finding humor in it but if sharing, know your audience.

Its really about timing. We have to assimilate tragedy at our own pace, and humor can be a reflexive reaction, part of how we cope with these events.

My guess is the bar patron didn’t want to worsen his tragedy by spilling his expensive coping mechanism.
     Too soon?

Timing is important. The more distant the tragedy the more acceptable the humor but make no mistake tis tasteless all the same if making light of the severity of the event.
The pic and comment is not offensive. It compliments British fortitude. This post was edited by O-uknow at October 9, 2017 5:37 AM MDT

Is just life...we all react differently to things.

Did you see the guy chugging his beer and flipping off the Vegas shooter?

No, had not seen this but dude is foolish egging the shooter on. What if the shooter had noticed? This post was edited by O-uknow at October 8, 2017 9:09 PM MDT

That behavior might not get you killed but what about the others not as well shielded you have just drawn attention to?

We seen it on the news...It did make us laugh.
The shooter was 500 feet away...I doubt he could see or hear the guy. And obviously he was shooting in that direction anyway.

The sound of the gunfire is the most chilling part  - hard to get my head around that. :(

Nope.  Though it may be insensitive to openly express it in front of others, even that depends upon the others in your presence.  Some of us react with humor to the most horrible and painful things, it is just our way of coping with the pain and/or the the horror...it is neither meant to be insensitive nor disrespectful.

Probably. Everyone is offended by or sensitive to something, though. As others have said, knowing your audience is key.
