  • I doubt if science could devise an experiment that could find out.

How do you measure the intelligence of an oyster?

It's difficult enough to find a valid measure of intelligence in humans, let alone in animals.

If intelligence is the ability to recognize pattern, understand what causes it and how it works, and use that information to solve problems, then every animal is intelligent relative to the patterns it needs to recognize in order to survive. But most animals have little ability to adapt outside the environment in which they evolved.

On the other hand, humans are born profoundly stupid, and have little ability to develop intelligence without training, an enriched environment, and the right stimulation from an early age and consistently throughout the years.

The brain is plastic, meaning it is able to grow and adapt in the direction of most use.

Another way of looking at it is that the brain is like a muscle. You can train it in sensitivity, reflexes, agility, suppleness, strength, speed, accuracy, resistance, endurance, associations, and specific skills. The more practise, the better the intelligence works - unless there's a physiological flaw in the transmission of neurotransmittors or the structure of the neurones.

Mammals and birds can also learn like this, but none has quite the same versatility of potential that humans do because they lack a neo-cortex.

It could, however, be argued that humans are the dumbest of all creatures - since we are the only creature that uses its brain in such a way as to destroy its own environment.

I believe it's a "Turkey".  They have been known to be so stupid that they turn their face up to the sky when it's raining and drown.

Yes it's the people who live in the slums and still bring children into the world with no intention of loving or supporting them.

Can you think of anything dumber than that?

Have we determined the smartest? I don't think so.

Just to clear things up a little, turkeys in the wild are quite intelligent and are hard to hunt.

      Domesticated turkeys are the dummies.

One percent of the worlds population have the smarts to have invented all the inventions ever made on earth.

The human is the most intelligent( but not all of course)  The perfect example of the least intelligent might be found in Washington D.C.

I was going to post a similar reply, but you seem to have covered most of what I would have said.

  • Thank you.

I often feel the same about your longer replies.

Often you say it better than I could.
