The world does not need special trees, it only needs someone to plant them. There are forests in India, Europe, and Brazil, just to mention the places I have heard of, each planted by just one man.

No.  I would like to see them stop cutting down trees.

Houses made of plastic? No more paper? Sounds great.

There are materials that can be used to make houses that don't require deforestation.

Houses could be framed in steel rather than wood.  There are all sorts of synthetic floorings, ceramic and porcelain tiles, heavy plastics could replace kitchen and bathroom cabinets, marble and formica countertops.

I'm sure you've heard that they are repurposing steel shipping containers.  Check out on line to see how beautiful some of these homes truly are.  This post was edited by SpunkySenior at October 23, 2017 6:33 PM MDT

    Did you know that:
The USA has greater forest coverage today than it did 100-years ago?
Lumber companies are always re-planting their forests with greater numbers of saplings than are harvested?
Unlike steel and concrete, lumber is a renewable resource that is now jealously managed by the various lumber companies?
The environmental hit is MUCH greater with steel and concrete construction, lots of petroleum-based energy needed to process either and a lot of pollution from the mining of either?
Environmentally conscious countries are now using engineered wood for construction, buildings up to 170-feet tall so far, due to steel's and concrete's cost and damage caused to the environment?

The research is already being done and some species have been approved.

Well, most deforestation in this country comes from massive fire.

When are they going to make trees fireproof genetically?

Those fires are a normal part of the life process of some forests. There are a number of tree and plant species that actually need that fire to open their seed pods to germinate.
