Hmm... I use solar power, I don't drive much (work from home), I make sure everyone in my house recycles... Those are probably the big ones.

  • Nothing.  That is a problem for future generations.  Why should I worry about that now?

  • It would be interesting, if it were possible, to know what proportion of people on the planet sincerely feel that way.

    Thank you for your response.

  • I'm thinking a lot, but then again they would probably feel the same way about everything else.

  • Oh! You mean that eating beans makes you fart, and that's methane.

Easy answer. Presoak the beans for eight hours, throw away the soak water.

Bring beans to the boil for a few minutes and throw away that water - that's the part with the enzymes that create the gas.

For beans equal in size to lentils, ordinary cooking for 20 minutes to tender, 1/2 hour for dahl, soup or mash.

Start with fresh water and pressure cook any beans larger than lentils for 3/4 hour.

If beans are more than 1 year old, cook for 1 hour.

Guaranteed you will get no gas.

  • ??? :(

Seems like many of us don't know the need, or maybe think it's futile.

    Thank you for your reply.

  • The house is covered in solar panels. The hot water system works like a refrigerator in reverse and so saves a huge amount of power. LED lighting throughout the house. Turning off electricity when we go to sleep. Using a wood combustion stove for heating in winter and off-setting by planting trees on our land and out along the riparian zones of local rivers. Growing our own fruit and vegetables and supplementing them from the produce of local farmers. Vegetarian diet for 33 years. Wearing only natural fibers. Re-using as much as possible and after that, recycling. Not consuming more than we need. Using a Credit Union rather than a bank so as not to contribute to investment in polluting industries. Environmentally ethical investment to earn a living. Membership of the Greens in my local areas and an ecologically oriented community education group. Organizing a free environmental festival once a year which promotes environmentally responsible lifestyles and technologies. Riding a bicycle and walking as much as possible; minimizing trips to town and car-pooling with neighbors.

Do you think natural fibers drop from heaven? Do you think they are not processed and treated?

I personally use different types of leaves and hand-stitch  my clothes.
