When I was a child, I would occasionally mix up the mashed potatoes with the peas and the carrots that were also on my plate. I then used ketchup as an emulsifier.
I've have changed considerably over the years.
Turkey or chicken gravy is allowed great access to most of the other items on my plate---vegetables excluded.
I like spaghetti sauce on my zucchini, sour cream on my steak, steak juices on my potato, egg yolk on my fried potatoes or toast, peas in my potatoes, and I dip my bread in my soup. So, in a word, no.
I used a divided plate until I married and left home. I still have some but don't always use them. I keep my foods from touching somewhat but am not bothered by it like I used to be. Any fried food must be served in it's own container though. Wet fried okra is not going to happen.
