Yes, we took a wrong turn in E St Louis. When an officer seen us, he asked us a few questions and then gave us an escort out back to the highway.

In my home town, we called it "the vill".  I had many friends there so yes I have.

Something similar happened to a couple of Navy friends. They were walking toward South Chicago when a cop car stopped them and said they had no business in that neighbor hood and gave them a ride back downtown where it was safe.

  • Yes, I've driven through East Oakland. It looked like a war zone. I'm glad I didn't get shot.

I'm in a hood about to transport to another.
SoCal is a network of hoods all interconnected with nothing to separate them but geographic knowledge. This post was edited by O-uknow at November 16, 2017 9:16 AM MST

I need to add. You have a tainted interpretation of what a "hood" is. It does not mean ghetto and is taken from the word "neighborhood".

I know...Nice catch. My Grandparents came from a place similar to the pic. My sister and her husband live in 'da hood' and use it interchangebly with 'ghetto'. This post was edited by Element 99 at November 17, 2017 6:05 AM MST

Well, ghettos now don't compare to what they use to be. Some things have got better.

  • As a colloquialism though it has come to mean the ghetto in common parlance.

A corruption of terms then. I've seen it used in comedy claiming the reverse. In the film a white rapper lived in the hood called Beverly ;) This post was edited by O-uknow at November 17, 2017 6:06 AM MST

I got lost in Kansas City at 2AM and was horrified.  It was very much ghetto.  I drove until I found a large four-lane road which turned out to be the one I was looking for when I ended up in gangland.  Living in Faith.

Never. I watched it on the telly though. Hoods are apparently full of drugs and hookers and violence.
