Something similar happened to a couple of Navy friends. They were walking toward South Chicago when a cop car stopped them and said they had no business in that neighbor hood and gave them a ride back downtown where it was safe.
I'm in a hood about to transport to another. SoCal is a network of hoods all interconnected with nothing to separate them but geographic knowledge.

I know...Nice catch. My Grandparents came from a place similar to the pic. My sister and her husband live in 'da hood' and use it interchangebly with 'ghetto'.

A corruption of terms then. I've seen it used in comedy claiming the reverse. In the film a white rapper lived in the hood called Beverly ;)

I got lost in Kansas City at 2AM and was horrified. It was very much ghetto. I drove until I found a large four-lane road which turned out to be the one I was looking for when I ended up in gangland. Living in Faith.
