Do you use a sponge on yourself? Why do they call it a "sponge bath" when you don't use a sponge? Or do you?

Once a week I use a loofah, otherwise I use a washcloth.   
It's called a sponge bath because a sea sponge is what was once typically used to bathe with.

nothing more unsanitary than a sponge for any use whatsoever  UNLESS you microwave it or rinse under SCALDING HOT WATER & EVEN THEN

I wouldn't trust it!!! have disliked sponges all my life and never use them..

but as to your question (I tend to ramble LOL) I always thought 'sponge bath' meant you were not taking the time for a complete bath or shower & using a washcloth but NOT A DAMN SPONGE.....just an old expression that is still in use, I guess.

so THROW AWAY ALL YOUR DAMN SPONGES.... they are worthless and loaded with crap.......use a damn washcloth!!!!!!!!!
