    I don't know about hydrating, but the stuff does soothe a bad sunburn.

    The outer layer of our skin is impenetrable by most liquid substances. Hydration means 'to add water', and aloe is mostly water, so it probably does in some sense of the word. I shall try it...I have a large plant.
