Do tell me why thanksgiving is one word and not two?

    Because Thanksgiving means a Holiday, Thanks giving means giving thanks.

  • What Carbon said.  The idea of Thanksgiving days is very old and long predates the holiday we have now.

    People decided to make a pageant of it, and it had to have a name, and they had to keep it decent while also being memorable, so they ran two words together. "National Turkey Day" and "Orange Poop Day" just never attracted a following.
