Yeah, in my thirties, I was self-employed and making good money. (for me)  So I took the family out more. Bought a new car, we went to the zoo, museums, the State Fair, amusement parks, traveled around, stuff like that. The kids enjoyed it.

That is so nifty bh! You provided extra fun for THE FAMILY. It wasn't all for you, all about you. You struck it rich for awhile and shared it with those whom you most loved. They got a taste of what the plush life is like. I think you handled it very well. Your choices were EXEMPLARY! I mean zoo, museums, State Fair, amusement parks, travel! Not bling and blang and blung. I think your kids are very lucky. You plied them with exposure to wondrous things..broadened their horizons...increased their knowledge of and experiences of the world... experiences they otherwise would not have had! I say GOOD JOB! Thank you for your awesome reply! I think you are ONE GREAT DAD! You can tell your kids (who are now grown I'm sure) I said so! :).

Dude...That's just being a good father and husband. Not hoity-toity at all. I'm glad you were able to do that.

Nah. I have never been that kind of guy. I would prefer to live modestly, even if I were wealthy.

  • I never have, no. I grew up in a fairly well-off family, but we were never "super fancy". Although I did enjoy always having nice name-brand clothing. I just can't afford that as much now that I'm on my own.

I've always worn name-brand clothing...whatever brand they sold at JC Penney, K-mart, Target or Wal-Mart.

  • The fact you seem okay with that and accept it is indicative that you and your family just enjoyed the level of comfort that was able to you but weren't hoity-toity.
    There's a huge difference.
