I haven't respected one person I have ever worked for. I would say that is the case for most employees.

No, I couldn't work directly for someone I didn't respect, but I've always been able to easily find employment, so I may be in a different position than other people who need the income.

I couldn't either Spunky. You can avoid co-workers you don't respect...well pr tty much unless you are jointly involved in some project. But you cannot avoid your boss. I think I'd get physically ill if I had to pretend that much. Thank you for your reply! :)

I had some of the weirdest bosses one could imagine in my life.

I was in sales.  Some were just plain crooks.  Some had no conscience.  And the holy terror of it was, all of them were great sales people.

    God save us all.

I try and respect people I work for, because it is my JOB to act as if.  I think I can keep it up until there is good reason to think otherwise.

I will tell you something. If I don't respect someone, I could care less what they think back.  So, I don't have to prove anything.  I can behave as long as they don't force me to compromise my integrity, they can do whatever they please with their own.  Just don't cause me to have to react and I won't.

I still feel that I owe it to the boss to do the job in the best possible manner I can as long as I am taking money for it.

I agree. While you are living on his dime you owe loyalty. If you can give that you shouldn't be there. Just my opinion. I'd get physically ill I think if I had a boss I did not respect. Thank you for your reply Sharon and Happy Wednesday! :)

People are wired differently m'dear. You know we have different tastes in food and music and entertainment and literature and everything else. We have different tastes/preferences in politicians too. Some adore him, some can't stand him. I don't how many are indifferent to him but there probably are some. Thank you for your reply franc and Happy Wednesday! :)

I'd say more than a few of them FEAR him. His two favourite words seem to be "You're fired". The revolving door policy when it comes to high profile positions tends to confirm it.

I just can't figure out why anyone takes him seriously. A pompous evil clown. One day he will be taken down. To accord him respect when he is such a disrespectful disaster as a human being is puzzling. If people just ignored him completely as he deserves it would drive him over the edge and he could live out the rest of his life in a mental institution babbling in the mirror about how wonderful he is, how many folks are out there  listening to him, how important he is, how special he is. He doesn't really need an audience. He has himself you see and that is the very best anyone could ever have. Ask him in his lucid moments. SIGH. A leader isn't a leader if no one follows. Right? Thank you for your reply Sbf. I'm gonna ask that question! :)

I learned long ago that it is not necessary to respect the person: you need to respect her/his position.

I have worked for people I did not respect.  If we accept a job and the payment that comes from it then I think we owe it to our employers to do the best job we are capable of regardless.  Just makes it perhaps easier if we respect them. I like my boss and respect him in general and he reciprocates but in some things I do question his judgment and don't respect some of what he does.  Plenty of people don't like their employers or resent them or whatever and live to just bitch about them which is not a very positive approach to life I think. I think if you work for someone you should try to see things as they do - gave them the benefit of the doubt.  After all we don't have the burdens and responsibilities they do.  Could we even handle those burdens and responsibilities?  Do we even want them?  All things to think about.

It is about being mature and responsible enough to do your job.
