Have you ever had the misfortune of having to handle a real snapper?

I've had to handle snappers on multiple occasions.  Usually it's in June when they are on the move to find a good place to lay their eggs.  

This lady showed up a few years ago after a bad hail storm.  Hard to tell from the pic but she was huge.  She decided digging a hole in my driveway in front of my garage was the best place to lay her eggs.  She was very heavy and it was quite the challenge to pick her up and find a place far enough away that was safe.

  • Yes quite often.  Just grab them by the sides of their shell or their tail and you're okay.   They make good soup and fritters too.

  • I'm messed up.  I see the word snapper and all I can think of is the 1977 underground movie classic Cinderella.  I'm probably the only weirdo who gets why or knows about that movie.

    Sadly, yes.  I think we need to have THE talk.  Ya know, the one about how the real birds and bees work.  For most women, those movies aren't a good example of what they enjoy.

    LOL Veena.  Looks can be quite deceiving.  Snapping turtles can take off your fingers if you're not careful.  Benedict Arnold there explained how to handle them properly.  She was pretty heavy but I always grab them from behind by their shells.
